The Departments are the key organizational structures for the conduct of scientific research, teaching and training activities, as well as knowledge transfer and innovation, and for related or ancillary outward-facing activities. The Director and the Department Council represent the Departmental Governing Bodies responsible for defining the Quality Assurance Policies for Departmental Research and Teaching.

Departmental Quality Presidium - PQD

Departmental Quality Presidium (PQD) is established within each Department of the University of Parma, an operational and liaison body between the Department and the University Quality Presidium.

The PQD has the following main tasks:

  • disseminates the culture of Quality within the Department;

  • implements, to the extent of its competence, the general policies and guidelines for Quality established by the University Bodies;

  • coadvises the CdS Chairpersons in the drafting of the QA documents of the CdS (SUA-CdS, Cyclical Review Report, Annual Monitoring Form);

  • coaches the Coordinators/Coordinators in the drafting of the QA documentsof the PhD programme (Cyclic Review Report, Self-Evaluation, Annual Report);

  • supports the Director/Director and Department Council in setting policies and objectives for Quality and QA of Research and Third Mission/Social Impact and in drafting related QA documents (Department Strategic Plan, Annual Monitoring Report, Cyclical Review);

  • supports the Director/Director in the monitoring and review of the activities of Teaching, Research and Third Mission/Social Impact;

  • promotes continuous improvement in Teaching, Research and Third Mission/Social Impact through self-evaluation activities, including in relation to the effectiveness of actions taken.

Departmental teaching quality

the PQD makes the monitoring of the QA processes implemented at the level of the Courses of Study (CdS) and PhD Programmes incardinated in the Department, so as to highlight any critical issues and identify appropriate support activities for the CdS Chairs and PhD Programmes Coordinators.

Departmental Teaching Delegate liaises with the Department Teaching Committee, which performs the function of support to the Director/Director in carrying out the responsibilities in teaching matters. In addition, the PQD, as mandated by the PQA, carries out monitoring actions on the Department's QA activities (including the analysis of the annual reports of the CPDSs)

The PQD also monitors the activities implemented by the Department to promote the internationalization process.

Quality of Teaching

Research Quality and Third Mission/Social Impact of Department.

The PQD carries out monitoring of the Research QA processes implemented at the Department level, so as to identify actions aimed at improving the performanceof the Department and its ability to attract resources from competitive calls and private entities.

The PQD also aims to monitor the activities implemented by the Department to disseminate culture, knowledge and transfer research results outside the academic context, contributing to the social and cultural growth of the area.

Departmental Research Quality and Third Mission/Social Impact Delegate(s) verifies the smooth running of the procedures for the drafting of the departmental strategic plan, annual monitoring report and cyclical review.

Annual Departmental Quality Assurance (QA) Goals

Each year, the PQD defines the Quality Assurance (QA) Objectives of the Department; these objectives must descend from those of the University.
