The main activities focus on the theoretical modeling of fiber-optic propagation and its related effects. The most active research areas are about:

  • modeling nonlinear effects in fiber optics
  • numerical analysis of optical communication systems
  • capacity optimization of communication systems
  • approximated models for performance evaluation

Current research topics are:

  • capacity optimization of power-constrained submarine links
  • monitoring of fiber-optic performance/anomalies through digital signal processing at the coherent receiver
  • nonlinear effects in space-division multiplexing (multi-fiber and multicore-multimode fibers)
  • Raman nonlinear effects in multi-band communications on single-mode fibers
