UniPR Racing Team is the Formula SAE Team of the University of Parma. Today it enlists more than 90 students from several university departments that bring the expertise to design and build racing cars to compete in the Formula SAE championship.
The team was founded in 2007 by a group of engineering students intent on entering the world of Formula SAE. The first participation in an official Formula SAE event took place at the FSAE Italy the same year on the Fiorano circuit in the Class3 category with the team ranked on the podium among the best projects. From the following year, with the first participation in a full event in Class1, began a path of growth and sacrifices that led a small group of students to become a Team and an established reality at the national level. UniPR Racing Team has participated in the Combustion category in all the stages of FSAE Italy from 2007 to 2017, at the 2013 Formula Student Imeche on the Silverstone track and in 2017 in the Formula Student Czech event on the Most track.
The results obtained in the various editions, along with the experience gained, led the team in 2018 to the decision to start a new adventure in the electric category. In the summer of 2018 the design of the electric prototype was presented in Varano, obtaining 2nd place in the Design competition.
The following year, the Team realized the first electric single-seater, the PSR01, from the University of Parma thanks to the contribution of a Team of 47 people from as many as 8 different courses of study. Successes were not long in coming; the Team embarked on a path of optimization culminating in the second electric single-seater PSR02, which brought the best results in the history of the UniPr Racing Team. After a 16th place finish at the FS East 2021 event at the Hungaroring, the prestigious venue of the Formula 1 Hungarian GP, in October 2021, the Team took a brilliant fifth place in the overall ranking during the Italian FSAE Italy stage in Varano Melegari, beating out the dreaded foreign competition and establishing itself as the second Team in Italy.
In light of this result, the Team embarked on a path of optimization culminating in the PSR02-s, the third single-seater to achieve the first foreign Top Ten in the Czech Republic in the EV category. The experience gained allowed the Team for the 2022-2023 season to develop a new electric car, the PSR-23, which proved to be extremely reliable and competitive in the FSAE Italy stage: 3rd place overall in the endurance test and 8th place in the overall ranking.
These excellent results laid a solid foundation for a further step forward in terms of innovation and ambition. For the 2023/2024 season, with more than 90 student members, UniPR Racing Team unveiled its first autonomous drive car that participated in the FSE Italy in Varano placing 6th overall, a remarkable result after less than a year of development.
