Federico Prost

Federico Prost received his Phd at the University of Parma (Italy) on March 2020. His research was focused on the development of a GPU-parallelized numerical scheme to perform accurate and fast simulations of surface runoff in watersheds, adopting a particular kind of multiresolution grid, for the first time applied at the watershed scale. The 2D shallow water model was tested against various synthetic literature tests and was validated reproducing real flash flood events that recently occurred in Italy. Based on the results of such models, emergency plans can be designed for civil protection purposes and in order to achieve a significant reduction in the economic losses generated by flood events.
During his PhD, he has also provided teaching support to the classes of Hydraulic Plants (Prof. Francesca Aureli) in the Master’s course of Civil Engineering.
Currently, he is a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Parma, in the Department of Engineering and Architecture, where he has received a scholarship on the project DILEMMA – Imaging, Modeling, Monitoring and Design of Earthen Leeves.
